Timemore – digital scale
Reads from two tenths of a gram.
Black Mirror Basic 3 reads reliably from 0.2 g, where the previous generation started at half a gram. You will see a few beans added while dialling in a dose, or an exact serving of matcha. The 2 kg capacity covers a full brewing server.
Three modes
A slider on the side. No menus to dig through.
Espresso, pour-over and plain weighing each have their own mode, and a mechanical slider switches between them: blind, with wet hands, in the middle of service. In pour-over the scale shows flow rate in grams per second and keeps a running brew ratio, so you do not have to hold the recipe in your head.
Espresso
Twenty millimetres. It fits the drip tray.
At 2 cm tall the scale fits on the drip tray of most espresso machines. In espresso mode it tares the cup for you and starts the timer with the first drops, leaving your hands free.
Built for service
Made for a bar, not just a kitchen counter.
IPX3 rating
It shrugs off splashes. The silicone mat wraps the whole body and its channels guide spills out to the sides, away from the display.
24 hours per charge
The 1,600 mAh battery lasts a full day with the display on. A full charge takes 3.5 hours over USB-C.
Magnets do not fool it
Electromagnetic shielding in the chassis keeps the reading steady on a drip tray or next to a magnetic dosing cup.
Against Basic 2
What has changed.
Basic 3 is smaller in every dimension and weighs 300 g instead of 380 g. It adds IPX3 protection, shielding against interference and a live ratio readout. The touch pads gave way to a mechanical slider.
The stated 0.1 g accuracy applies up to 500 g. Above that the tolerance widens: 1 g up to 1 kg, 3 g up to 2 kg. That makes no difference for dosing coffee and water, but it is worth considering if you weigh pastry ingredients.
